Volunteer lawyers are crucial to the success of the Montana Innocence Project. Lawyers can get involved by reviewing a case or representing a Project client in court.

Volunteers are critical to helping the Montana Innocence Project exonerate the innocent and prevent wrongful convictions. Thanks to over 2,000 hours donated each year by talented volunteers, we are able to further our mission.

One of the primary objectives of MTIP is to engage law students, graduate students, and undergraduate students in our work. With a trained volunteer supervisor, students screen cases, assist investigations, and, in some cases, help litigate claims of innocence.

How to apply:

Internships and externships are typically processed by individual law schools and colleges, but please contact us if you want to get involved outside of a designated internship or externship program.
