
As an AmeriCorps member with the Justice for Montanans program, Charlie serves as the Intake and Pro Bono Coordinator at MTIP. He reviews applications for legal assistance and supports cases from application, through investigation, and into litigation.
Charlie is a recent graduate of Princeton University, where he received his A.B., magna cum laude, in Politics and minored in English. His independent research focused on American judicial politics and the balance between judicial independence and responsiveness under democratic government. Charlie was a four-year member of the Varsity Lightweight Rowing Team, including the 2023 IRA National Champions. He has spent summers working for a federal magistrate judge in Brooklyn and a public health NGO in Pretoria, South Africa. Charlie has been recognized as an IRA Scholar-Athlete and a Schaeffer Fellow in Government Service.
Charlie’s introduction to the criminal legal system came as a tutor with the Petey Greene Program, where he supported incarcerated students who were pursuing GEDs. At school, Charlie served as Peer Representative, acting as defense counsel for students accused of academic and disciplinary violations. Charlie has published on the architecture of mass incarceration in the United States.
Charlie is passionate about building broad coalitions to create criminal and civil legal systems that better embody equal justice under law. He believes that wrongful convictions naturally spark wider conversations about constructing a criminal legal system that is more accurate, accountable, and just for all.
