Montana Innocence Project Virtual Book Club: ‘The Wrong Carlos: Anatomy of a Wrongful Conviction’

The Montana Innocence Project will host its next virtual book club on Wednesday, October 19 from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. The book selection is “The Wrong Carlos: Anatomy of a Wrongful Conviction” by James S. Liebman and the Columbia DeLuna Project.

“The Wrong Carlos” tells the story of Carlos DeLuna, a man who was executed in 1989 for the murder of Wanda Lopez at a gas station in Corpus Christi, Texas. Six years later, a Columbia University law professor and his team conducted one of the most thorough reviews of a death penalty case in U.S. history that revealed mounting evidence of DeLuna’s innocence including that law enforcement failed to investigate an obvious, more plausible suspect and that the entire conviction was based on a cross-racial witness misidentification.

The Montana Innocence Project partners with the Missoula-based bookstore Fact and Fiction for its virtual book club. You can purchase “The Wrong Carlos” in their store located at 220 N Higgins Ave.
